Welcome to Part 5 of the Guide to SEO which covers on page optimisation so the page you want search engines and users to engage with is accurate.
On page optimisation is making sure everything on your webpage is correct for search engines so it can reach as far as it can on the SERP’s (search engine ranking pages).
You have decided what is the best keyword you want to drive to this page (see Part 4) so now you have to optimise this page for this keyword.
Titles
When search engines crawl your website, they pay specific notice to what is between the HTML heading tags, especially <H1>, <H2>, and <H3>. Titles and subtitles are important positions for keywords.
For every targeted page on your website you should have a <h1> or <h2>or <h3> that has that page’s main keyword within it.
Don’t make your titles too long. Keep them simple and to the point.
URLs
The URL of the webpage can be one of the most important factors of on-page optimisation. Make sure you get this right from the start as it is very important because it could cause problems if you need to change this later on. Including important, relevant keywords in the URL can give you a small, but vital rankings boost. Googlr displays the portions of your URL that match the search term entered in bold in the SERPs.
Make sure your urls are seo keyword friendly this will help the user in the SERP’s
For example, you saw www.website.co.uk/12345/ then you would not be able to recongise what this page was about but if it was, www.website.com/seo/ then you know it is going to be about seo.
Meta Tags
Meta tags are used to tell search engines on how a specific webpage should be indexed. Optimising your Meta title and Meta description with the specific keyword can be useful in providing more information to the search engines but using the keyword Meta tag has no became dormant.
Content
Creating relevant content for the page is very important so the user and the search engines find the content useful.
Having the page consist of text and images is the ideal way so the keyword can be incorporated in the text and that the image alt tag can be optimised.
On-page optimisation is one of the most important aspects of SEO so doing it well can be very profitable in the long term.
